Trendsetter of the Week : Kanya Kishnani

A diction expert and a fashion blogger, a communication and a behavior coach, Miss Kanya Kishnani, is an anchor who holds credit to host events from all genres vis-a-vis fashion, corporate, international brands, pageants, awards, launch events, and fundraisers to highlight a few domains.

Kanya holds an MBA in Human Resources from the prestigious PACE University in New York City and during her stay in America, she was the official emcee for three years at a party that witnesses the most glamorous side of Indian diaspora in New York City called ‘Jalwaa’.

Fashion is her passion and Kanya also ran a high couture studio and a grooming academy for some time when she returned to India and later decided to not commercialize her passion as much.

Presently, she works with a lot of societies that promote Women Empowerment through various events by being their official emcee and has the rare caliber to add a flavor of her rich and invigorating international experience to each event that she becomes a part of.

She was recently awarded ‘Delhi’s Best Anchor for 2017’ at Magicka Women Entrepreneur Angel Awards .

Some shows to her credit are: Iconic Awards 2017, Charismatic Delhi 2017, Magicka Angel Awards, Dine with Delegates-Italy and India, Style Divas by Tia Jewels, Heart and Soul Women Rising Awards, the launch of a luxury brand’s magazine called The Red Velvet Column etc.

A balanced fusion of vintage and Rajwara styles created from the heart and soul by extremely skilled labour in the city of jewels “Jaipur”.
KJ Jewels is not about making a turnover but a heartfelt story of “jewel art “ by joining hands with charity and a good cause.

What is the inspiration behind your designs?

Whenever I saw a beautiful fresh rose, I used to always think ,”Wish I could preserve its beauty forever”.
This thought gave birth to my Rosella collection, which is very close to my heart.
I came up with a jewellery line preserving these roses in chemicals and then embellished them with antique diamonds and pearls in gold and silver, for a complete vintage look.

My inspiration comes mainly from flowers especially, roses and butterflies. So I use a lot of coral and rosecut antique diamonds in my designs.

What are the key elements for you when designing a collection for each season?

The key element is the weather and comfort. One can only enjoy a jewellery peace if it’s comfortable and also right for the season.

What challenges did you face when launching your brand?

The main challenge that I face is that the designs get copied very fast.  And the copies devalue the beauty of the piece.

What are your plans for the future?

My future plan is to earn name and fame for india as a Designer and ultimately link my work with charity and serve for a good cause.

What do you think are the keys to professional and business success for women in India?

The keys to success are :
Firstly, choosing the right profession of your interest.
Secondly, having a whole hearted approach towards it.
And lastly and most importantly, hardwork.

What advice would you give to young women readers who want to follow a similar career path as you?

 My genuine advice to my young readers is that they should not run after money. They should work hard on their job and customers satisfaction , wealth will follow automatically. And always be positive even in odd times.

What is the biggest lesson that you have learned since you started your company?

Beautiful jewellery itself gives sparkle but when you see someone wearing and appreciating your creations, it give you immense pleasure and real satisfaction.

The biggest lesson that I got is that there are no shortcuts in life. Sincerity and hard work is the only way to success. And the ultimate goal is not just earning money, but spending that hard earned money for a good cause. I believe that is your ultimate satisfaction.

She is a trained jewellery designer and has been awarded with the best jewellery designer award at the New Delhi Fashion Week and Jdift’s annual event by The Who’s who of the fashion world during her training period.

” The whole concept of accessorization has gone through a phenomenal shift in last few years. Jewellery is no more considered as a symbol of one’s financial well being. Infact women in 21st century have changed the whole perception around it. The designing, aesthetics, synchronization, safety and practicality are few of the factors that are playing a pivotal role in the selection of jewellery by them these days.”

What is the inspiration behind your designs?

To create something that suits the needs and ethos of present day Indian woman.
Something that should be exquisite and yet affordable.
Aesthetics are on priority in my designing as bizarre trends are good for ramps, not for regime

What are the key elements for you when designing a collection for each season?

Practicality, Value addition by providing Chang ability and detach ability in designing.
Safety and practicality on top.
That’s why I ventured into fashion and destination jewellery as it’s the need of the hour and much in demand due to a lifestyle shift in our society.
Syncronization and coordination to be considered as well while designing a collection so that it gels well with current fashion trends too

What challenges did you face when launching your brand?

It’s a highly competitive world. Thinking out of the box and coming up with unique sales promotion tools are a prerequisite!
Focusing on quality rather than quantity of work.
Feedbacks and suggestions to be collected at every showcase or exhibition to curb your flaws and to incorporate stuff in your stock demanded by clients rather than of your taste.
Focusing on every single detail ; be it packaging or keeping a connect with your data via broadcast posts and material as the devil lies in the detail

What are your plans for the future?

Create a niche in the fashion jewellery world.

What do you think are the keys to professional and business success for women in India?

Don’t be afraid of technology
Develop communication skills ; that doesn’t mean speaking good in English only but one should be able to express themselves well, irrespective of the language used in achieving that
Must have some principles and disciplines in personal and professional life
Adapt to the ever changing world without loosing the grip on who you truly are .

What advice would you give to young women readers who want to follow a similar career path as you?

There’s no substitute to hard work.
I don’t think I can give any more advice to someone as I’m still learning.

I took up many events with different themes and with people from different walks of life
