Richa Mehta , the owner of RM Vogue was pursuing an MBA in finance andw as working in for a couple of years in an audit firm (Ernst and Young) when she wanted to make her fashion dreams into a reality. She always had passion of dressing up and modelling for shoots.
RM Vogue is a platform for people to rent-in outfits and earn money. We rent in from general customers and rent out to B2B and B2C. This idea came from a middleman thought of having multiple designer outfits (not repeating more than once) sitting idle in the wardrobe and still having the urge to buy a new one. So why not rent out a couple of outfits with the same amount of money rather than buying one!

One renting out , will be earning of others renting in. That’s how RM Vogue emerged two months back and now caters to more than 140 outfits from customers across India.

What is the inspiration behind your designs?
The inspiration behind my idea is the thought of a middleman process. We provide a platform for people to rent-in from their wardrobe (to earn money) and rent-out at affordable prices to wear new clothes whether it’s for a random party or special occasion.

What challenges did you face when launching your brand?
Oh a lot! As even now, people are of this mindset to not wear a cloth which somebody else owns or what if somebody will get to know that the outfit I am wearing is actually rented, not owned.

What are your plans for the future?
My future plan is to set this as a base and have branches not only in India but abroad too. Renting clothes is the need of the hour as not everybody can afford new outfits everytime and trend keeps changing.  Moreover, one can rent out a couple of outfits with the same amount spent on purchasing one.

What do you think are the keys to professional and business success for women in India?
Family support is a must for any women to cross path ahead. For me my major support is my Dad.
– Women makes women stronger, at-least true for RM Vogue as we have 90:10 women:men ratio!

What advice would you give to young women readers who want to follow a similar career path as you?
Never say never! There might be many hurdles and with a start-up, a lot of downs, but always follow what you believed in while starting and prove the world wrong. More than the world, prove yourself wrong when you think you cannot do it, because you can and you will make a difference!

What sparked your interest in fashion?
I always love to wear new clothes and dress up to the best. This was something which made me happy. And this happiness made my dream turn into a reality and thus a profession.

What is the biggest lesson that you have learned since you started your company?
Customer is the king. One has to sometimes bend its ways to make things possible. With a start-up and specially something which is actually aiming to bring change in society, it’s the need of the hour.
